Your contractor is a great source for advice when starting your new backyard.

What is the biggest challenge you face when it comes to renovating your backyard? By far, homeowners all over Sussex and Warren Counties in New Jersey tell us that it's making the first phone call. With a lack of information or guidance, the fear of starting a project you know very little to nothing about can seem like a recipe for disaster. Knowledge can be a superpower.

I often toss around the phrase “the right contractor” or “the right contractor” and have been remiss for not clarifying what this means to us. When selecting the "right" contractor for your needs, we recommend looking for some key criteria.

  1. Someone who listens to your needs.

  2. Someone that you feel comfortable with.

  3. An organization that is equipped to make your dream come true without major hurdles.

  4. A process that is clear and transparent on steps and pricing.

  5. A company that has a strong reputation and will be there in the future to support your needs.

The right contractor is a great resource for all kids of information. From the first conversation, to the day they leave your property, and even after that, a good contractor will be able to answer your questions clearly and keep you abreast of pricing, choices, design suggestions, obstacles, and progress. A wealth of information is at your disposal. “Don’t ignore the education items that are created to help,” says Robert Molinet, head honcho at Sierra Landscape Management. “They are there to make the journey easier.”

Robert finds that most homeowners are challenged most with pricing. Figuring out the real cost of renovating an outdoor living space tends to be a mystery to his new clients. And the homeowner should not be blamed. They will research backyard renovation costs as best they can, but because of a lack of or conflicting information on the web, they often fall very short compared to what their vision is.

Having seen his fair share of clients needing guidance, Robert has made it a priority to provide copious amounts of helpful information, all up for the taking. It’s there on his website in an effort to help his clients become educated on just about every aspect of a renovation. His goal is to make the process easy to understand and follow.

Clients tend to find the Buyer’s Guide very helpful when it comes to pricing. These three general investment ranges are based on actual pricing from similar projects. Many find value in piecing together their own vision with the menu style selection of common features.

Sierra’s YouTube channel is also full of information. Inspiration through tours of completed backyards, educational step-by-step how-to videos for DIY-ers, and process videos are all designed to help homeowners understand what they can expect during a renovation as well as help others make smart decisions with their own renovation journey.

It’s not your job to know all of the ins and outs of creating a new outdoor living space. However, it IS the job of your landscape contractor to educate you about the process from start to finish. The years and possibly decades of experience are there, not only to make sure you receive the best workmanship, but also to help make you feel that you’ve made the best decision. Use the information your contractor has developed. Their experience should be your guide when it comes to your backyard make-over.

As we discussed, the probably the most difficult part of the process is making the first step and letting your contractor know that you’re ready to start your journey. Sierra is ready for your call and encourages you to ask your questions. It’s a team effort and we welcome you to the team. They’re ready when you are.
